Beautiful Scars

It is easy to think that just because we are flawed people, we can’t improve the world. We tell ourselves to wait until we’re older, wiser, smarter, richer, better educated, or healthier, etc… But the reality is that it’s our flaws, sorrows, and struggles, redeemed by God, which equip us to walk alongside other struggling people and show love to them.
Our scars are part of what makes us who we are. Whatever form they take, they’re not blemishes we should spend our lives trying to erase, but rather medals of bravery from our battles. Redeemed scars qualify us to minister to and walk beside of others fighting wars similar to the ones we’ve fought. Be proud of your scars!
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things – and the things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him. It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.” – 1Corinthians 1:27-30 (NIV)
These verses make it clear that, although none of us are qualified to minister by our own power, ALL of us Christians have been uniquely qualified by Christ’s power.
“But you don’t know what terrible, irreversible mistakes I’ve made!” you say. No, I don’t. But God does. He tells us through the apostle Paul that Christ has become “our righteousness, holiness, and REDEMPTION.” (verse 30, emphasis mine)
Think about that! Christ IS our redemption! That means that the same power (the Holy Spirit) which raised Christ from the dead has ALREADY worked in us to redeem all our failures, mistakes, shortcomings, fears, inadequacies, insecurities, etc. Whatever we are powerless against, Jesus  conquered 2000 years ago! IT IS FINISHED!
So quit making excuses. You have no excuse now! You and I, with all our failures, have been redeemed – not partially, not mostly, not pretty much, but COMPLETELY! Hallelujah!
